Cigna has announced it has completed its acquisition of Nashville-based HealthSpring, expanding Cigna's presence in the seniors and Medicare segments. The acquisition adds more than one million individuals to Cigna's existing 70 million customer relationships.
“With HealthSpring’s talented team and highly differentiated physician engagement model, Cigna expands its capabilities and product offerings to better serve customers throughout their life stages,” said Cigna Chief Executive Officer David M. Cordani.
During Cigna's fourth quarter earnings call, scheduled for 8:30 am Eastern (7:30 am Central) on Feb. 2, 2012, Cigna leaders and HealthSpring's Herb Fritch are anticipated to address questions about the acquisition, including anticipated contributions from the HealthSpring business.
