Changing Gears to Navigate Dementia: A Caregiver Workshop
9 am-2:30 pm • Cost: No Charge • Event Features Dr. Peter V. Rabins, MD, MPH, author of The 36-Hour Day Join professionals and other caregivers at this one-day workshop hosted by Mental Health America of Middle Tennessee and the Meharry Consortium Geriatric Education Center. Navigating care for a loved one with dementia presents a host of issues. The day's program includes: • Kelly Baker who gives the caregiver's perspective, • Author Peter Rabins, MD, who provides practical tools for caregiving, • Dr. Matthew Reed Peachey of Vanderbilt to discuss palliative care, and • Attorney Kevin Williams bringing insight into navigating the legal system. Senior Solutions Expo
A helpful and fun event for seniors, their families and caregivers. There will be free health screenings (dental, hearing, vision and diabetes); free, one-on-one consultations on Medicare, medication management, TennCare, nutrition, hospice options and home care; a "Second Wind Dreams Virtual Dementia Tour" that shows caregivers and seniors' family members the struggles of aging and dementia; and safety technicians will give safety demonstrations for senior drivers. The event will be held at the Music City Center, Hall D at 201 5th Ave S. Nashville, TN 37203, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. FREE bus spaces will be available at the First Baptist Church at 108 7th Ave. S. Spaces can be reserved at the event website. The entire event is free, including parking.
